Avian Flu?
Coxsackie?
Or just another virus on the block?
Recent outbreaks of bird flu (Avian Influenza) and the Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease (coxsackie viruses) have caused much fear and panic. Such pandemics may have different names, but beneath such deadly names lay a powerful killer called VIRUS.
In fact, many human illnesses are caused by infections with either bacteria or viruses. The common cold, herpes. AIDS, and many others are the works of the deadly parasitic viruses. Viruses are different from bacteria. Unlike bacteria, viruses are nonliving organisms. They require living hosts, such as people, plants, or animals to multiply. When a virus enters the body, it invades some of our bodies’ cells and takes over the cell machinery, redirecting host cells from their normal functions and causing them to produce the virus. Viruses will eventually kill their host cells or become part of these cells’ genetic material. Some viruses are contagious, spreading directly from person to person, such as influenza and the common cold. Other viruses, such as the West Nile virus and yellow fever, are not.
Bacteria, on the other hand, are different from viruses. They are single-celled microorganisms that reproduce and can grow on nonliving surfaces. However, not all bacteria are harmful, and some are even very beneficial for our health. But when infectious bacteria enter our body, they can make us sick by producing toxins that damage specific cells they’ve invaded. Some bacterial infections are contagious, such as tuberculosis, while other infections like endocarditis (infections of the heart valves) or osteomyelitis (infections of the bone) are not.
Bacterial infections are treated with antibacterial antibiotics. Taking these antibiotics when you have a viral infection, not a bacterial infection, won’t treat the viral infection and may even be harmful. In addition, antibacterial antibiotics may have serious side effects. Antiviral drugs, on the other hand, are currently only effective against a few viral diseases, such as influenza, herpes, hepatitis B and C and HIV. but they come with many harmful side effects.
Health is not the absence of disease. Many pandemics have come and gone, leaving many dead, while wounding many others. And yet, there are still many others who, prevail and become stronger and healthier. It is the quality and the well-being of our bodies that can help us withstand all threats. Our immune system can protect us from ever-mutating viruses and bacteria.
THE IMMUNE SYSTEM
The immune system is a complex network of specialized cells and organs which defend us against attacks by foreign invaders. When functioning properly, it fights off infections by bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. Our special immune system cells. T-lymphocytes, can recognize and kill cells containing viruses. Many viruses, when released from infected cells, will be effectively killed by our antibodies, which are produced in response to infection.
When the immune system is weak, however, then the body’s whole defense system is down and subject to attack when exposed to harmful organisms. The body’s immune system will attempt to bar their entry or, when that has failed, seek out and destroy the invaders.
To have a strong immune system, the body needs to be made up of cells that are well nourished and free from toxins. Diet and supplements play a major role in reinforcing the immune system.
PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE
Healthy Lifestyle and Diet
NewLife has always advocated a healthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle is the most important factor in building a strong immune system. For adults, due to the accumulated factors of toxins and nutritional deficiencies, we recommend the Detoxification & Rejuvenation Programme (DRP) to give your body a new start along with a diet that comprises 75% of raw fruits and vegetables, with plenty of freshly made quality juice. Yoghurt should be the main source of protein. For children, the emphasis should be on their daily diet and lifestyle. A strong immunity will be able to prevent viral infections to a large extent.
SUPPLEMENTS TO INCREASE IMMUNITY
The following supplements are particularly important (These doses are for adults and children 12 and above. For children above 6, reduce the dosage by ½):

It increases the circulation of lymphatic fluid through the lymphatic system, thereby increasing the immunity. It is advisable to bounce gently on a rebounder for ½ to 1 minute, 5 to 6 times a day.
APPLE CIDER VINEGAR VAPORIZATION
To maintain a clean respiratory tract, you may use the Apple Cider Vinegar Vaporization.
Preparation: In a small pan, mix 2 tablespoons qf Apple Cider Vinegar and l cup of distilled water. Bring the mixture to a boil. When fumes begin to rise, turn off the heat and put a towel over your head while leaning over to take deep breaths of the vapor.

THE LAST DAYS
I believe mankinds has done enough damage and caused enough chaos for the world to self-destruct. In these last days, there will definitely be more and more new and strange diseases appearing. Below is a list of just a few of the numerous new viruses that have surfaced within the last 10 years:
- BSE (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy) – first appeared in 1996
- Fatal myocarditis in Malaysia 1997
- Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSEs) 1997
- H5N1-Bird Flu Influenza transmitted to humans in Hong Kong 1997
- Unidentified virus that killed 32 children in Taiwan 1998
