Raising Healthy Children

Children are so special; they are a blessing to every parent and family. What we choose to say to them, teach them, expose them to, or feed them, will have a lasting effect on their development.

Raising a healthy child in a busy modern world that offers many ‘instant’ conveniences has proven to be increasingly challenging. But all parents have one thing in common: they want the best for their children. It is our desire to share with you some helpful principles with loving direction. Applying the right principles will have big payoffs, and the reward of a healthy child is truly worth the effort. Here are eight useful tips:

EAT PURE

“Everything is permissible but not everything is beneficial.” These inspired words help us to understand that while we are free to eat any food, not every food is good for us. You are the health ‘gatekeeper’ to your precious little one.

Dr. Lynn said, “Always compare with nature. Go for the form of food which God originally designed for us to eat. The more men try to ‘improve’ the food, the further away it is from nature. Such food you should avoid.” So cut down or eliminate sugar, salt, oil, refined and processed food. Give your children wholesome food: lots of raw vegetables and fresh fruits. Instead of potato chips, chocolates, and fizzy drinks, give them carrot sticks, mango yoghurt smoothies, etc. Don’t forget to give them plenty of water, but only the safest, purest water—distilled water.

EAT BALANCED

Carbohydrate-containing foods and the nutrients they contain are essential to your children’s growth and development. Simple carbohydrates are digested and easily absorbed, allowing them to be quick-burning forms of energy. They are found in all fruits and crunchy vegetables (for example, broccoli, carrots, celery, green leafy vegetables, etc).

Others required more time to get into a usable form of energy; they are digested more slowly and are absorbed evenly into the system as fuel. These are called complex carbohydrates. They are found in grains (like whole wheat bread, brown rice, rolled oats) and starchy vegetables (such as potatoes, corn).

Balance carbohydrates with power proteins. Protein works to replace worn-out cells and to regulate body functions. Yoghurt, Spirulina, and Bee Pollen are excellent sources of proteins and are easily digested and assimilated by the body. They provide more protein than meat.

EAT BRIGHT

Go for a variety of brightly coloured fruits and vegetables. They provide a storehouse of vitamins, minerals, and other substances for vitality. They are also valuable sources of fibre and fluids. Get your children involve, from grocery shopping to meal preparation, in creating a colourful palette out of the food. These may be moments which they will treasure for the rest of their lives!

BOOST IMMUNITY

We often hear parents complain about their children catching the flu or a cough from their classmates. If we can’t do much about the external environment, the best thing is to strengthen our children’s immunity. If they have strong immunity, they won’t fall sick so often, even if their classmates are coughing or sneezing away. These are some of the essentials used by Dr. Lynn and other like-minded moms:

HONEGAR: Mixture of NewLife™ Organic Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) and Pure Raw Honey. It’s loaded with potassium and other minerals.

FLAXSEED OIL :
Helps build immunity, strengthens lungs, blood vessels, the heart, and is good for skin health and brain cell development. Best taken with yoghurt or Spirulina.

IMMUFLORA : Helps digestion and eases constipation, while building immunity.

K-SALT : Prevents cough & colds. Removes chest congestion and copious phlegm. Constructs healthy cells and tissues.

PROPOLPLUS & BEE POLLEN : Natural antibiotic. Excellent to use in
times of fever, sore throats, flu, coughs and colds.

ZINGER TEA : Soothes coughs and builds immunity.

EXERCISE

Cut down on the amount of TV watching and computer games. Involve them in exercises at home and outdoors. Exercise is not only for physical fitness. It also improves eyesight, brain, and intellectual factors. The Rebounder is very convenient, and it is an enjoyable and beneficial form of exercise for the children.

REST

Make sure your children have enough sleep. Send them to bed early.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT

Many personal care items, body washes, shampoos, laundry detergents, toothpaste, etc., contain harmful and harsh chemicals. Common culprits are PEG (polyethylene glycols) and SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate or Sodium Laureth Sulphate) found in shampoo and body wash. They can cause skin problems. Fluoride and artificial flavouring are found in toothpaste. Cancer-causing agents are found in laundry brighteners. So consider safer alternatives:

  • ASSURE: A plant-based laundry detergent. Economical, safe, gentle, non-toxic and biodegradable. Contains no chlorine, phosphates, artificial fragrances, dyes or optical brighteners.
  • EL NATURAL TOOTHPASTE: Fluoride-free. Contains propolis and teatree oil, has the natural antibacterial properties required for healthy gums and teeth. It is all natural and contains no chemical whatsoever.
  • CASTILE SOAP: Organic, mild and natural soap. Contains virgin olive oil, coconut oil, essential oils of lavender, lemongrass. rosemary, eucalyptus, etc.
  • ANNEMARIE BORLiND LINDEN BLOSSOM SHAMPOO: A mild, 100% organic herbal hair care. Guaranteed 100% free from PEG and SLS.
  • HYDROGEN PEROXIDE: Great for washing wounds, removing ear wax, disinfecting toothbrushes, etc.
  • WONDA OIL: First aid kit in a bottle. Excellent as an insect repellent, for insect bites, wounds, fungus, etc. Works wonderfully for congestion, cough, and blocked nose. See product brochure for more applications.

LOVE

Above all. LOVE. Spend quality and quantity time with your children. Be generous with your praises and hugs. Bring corrections and discipline to a child with love and consistency.
May your parenthood be filled with joy, grace and laughter. May your children and grandchildren ‘arise and call you blessed!’

BEWARE OF ROBBERS! GUARD YOUR CHILDREN

Calcium Robber : Sugar & caffeine. Caffeine is in lots of places — cola, soda, chocolate, tea. coffee.
Potassium Robber : Salt (chips, sausage, bacon, hot dogs are very high in sodium).
Energy Robber : Overdoing sweets & caffeine; not drinking enough water; not exercising; not enough sleep etc.

Other ‘Friendly’ Evils :

Hydrogenated fat or Trans-fat : Most commercially baked biscuits or cakes, chocolates, ice-cream etc. are made of vegetable oil (hydrogenated, partial hydrogenated, or trans). Hydrogenation is a process used to make oil more solid, products more stable; provide longer shelf-life in baked products and longer fry-life for cooking oils. Hydrogenated or Trans-fat are the worst fat, far worse than saturated fat. They increase product shelf life while decreasing human shelf life.
Colourings, artificial flavours, and preservatives.
