Vitamin C is a vitamin that is commonly known for its ability to help the body against cold and flu and other common diseases. This important vitamin has many key roles, restoring and maintaining optimal health.
Vitamin C is required in the synthesis of collagen in connective tissue, neurotransmitters, steroid hormones, carnitine, conversion of cholesterol to bile acids and enhances iron bioavailability. Ascorbic acid is a great antioxidant and helps protect the body against pollutants.
Vitamin C will be more effective if taken with bioflavonoids , calcium and magnesium . To enhance the antioxidant properties, it will be best to take it with the other anti-oxidants , as there is strong evidence of synergy between all of them.
Vitamin C is an essential part of a healthy diet. Although some people do need more vitamin C in their diets, we can get enough simply by eating plants and other foods that contain the vitamin. All citrus fruits contain large quantities of vitamin C, as well as green vegetables and some roots, like carrots and potatoes. Some animals even synthesize vitamin C in their bodies, so they don’t need to take it in from food.
Vitamin C also protects against blood clotting and bruising and can promote the healing of wounds. It also has been discovered that vitamin C works synergistically with vitamin E, which basically means the two are more beneficial when taken together. Vitamin E is a free radical scavenger and Vitamin C attacks free radicals, promoting a healthy immune system. Vitamin C is also believed to help reduce levels of cholesterol and high blood pressure.
Vitamin C is most commonly thought of as the vitamin to take if you feel a cold coming on or just feel a bit run down. And although vitamin C is great in this area, because of the effect it has on the body’s immune system, it really has so much more to offer.
Rosa canina is a deciduous shrub with a rambling and scrambling habit. Its spiny (modified leaves) stems bear pinnate leaves, composed of 5 to 7 dark green leaflets with serrated margins. Its early summer fragrant hermaphrodite flowers have five petals and can vary between deep pink and white. Following on from the flower in autumn scarlet red fruit 15mm-20mm long are produced, commonly known as hips. These are edible and rich in vitamin C.
Rosa Canina is very similar to Alnus Glutinosa except that Rosa Canina is mainly metabolic, whereas, Alnus Glutinosa is mainly anti-inflammatory. Rosa Canina, however, can also be used for recurring inflammatory ailments in a deficient terrain. Its activity is complementary to numerous gemmotherapy remedies. It is a remedy for certain anemias and types of decalcification. Rosa Canina is indicated for conditions such as recurring childhood inflammations such as otitis media, tonsillitis, and boils, as well as migraine headaches, allergies, chronic sinusitis (adult), goitre euthyroidism, herpes, osteoporosis and childhood rhinopharyngitis.
